Understanding the Black Wealth Gap

The racial wealth gaps reflects longstanding differences in household assets, access to capital, homeownership, business ownership, and opportunities to transfer wealth across generations.

Federal Reserve research shows that substantial wealth disparities remain between Black households and other groups in the United States.

These differences are not explained by one factor alone. They reflect generations of unequal access to wealth-building opportunities, including historical discrimination in housing, lending, employment, and business financing.

The 4-40-400 Capital Venture Fund exists to provide practical responses to those disparities through collective action, targeted supports for sustaining, and long-term economic opportunities for those who were denied it due to their lineages ties in the past.

Data from the Federal Reserve’s Distributional Financial Accounts, shows between 2019 and 2022, total wealth increased for all racial and ethnic groups. 

However, according to the 2022  Federal Reserve Survey for Consumer Finances, median Black wealth increased to $44,890, but continued to lag other racial groups. 

In 2022, median wealth for Asian households was $536,000, for White none Hispanics or Latinos was $285,000 and for Latino/Hispanic households their household wealth averaged at $62,000 with Black working households having a median wealth of only $44,890.

This means there is not (Blacks and Hispanics) no Black and Brown people at the bottom of the wealth measurements there are only Blacks. Using that data Hispanics average pay is r $8.91 more per hour and $1426-$1600 more per month in income than that of Black descendants of America.
